It's been announced that film director Ken Russell has passed away at age 84. What most people probably don't realize is that he started out as a photographer, and a street photographer no less. Sadly most of his work was destroyed in a fire several years ago but you can see some of his 1950's era images at the Guardian's website. You can absolutely see Russell's style beginning to develop in this early work. As far as his films go, I have to admit I've never been a fan.
